Mandela lives 24/7

ALEXANDRA – Children nurtured on Mandela Day.

Mandela Day 2019 will be unforgettable to many children and residents who were urged to nurture the children to aspire and reach their dreams.

Hundreds of children, parents, grannies, representatives of companies and organisations celebrated the late statesman’s birthday on 18 July at Phuthadichaba Community Centre. The annual festivity had lots of entertainment, exchange of pleasantries and loads of donated goodies, food and other items which will last the centre, an NPO, for months.

“God works in mysterious ways,” was all that centre founder and ageing Philanthropist Linda Twala could say about the occasion as he sat down exhausted.

The children were seemingly the centre point for the day while the elderly, who are also fed and stimulated daily, gathered in the hall for their share of ‘Mandela stimuli’.

Bonolo Molefe of Wynberg-based 24/7 Security Company in partnership with Antemis Brands said, “Children are the most sentimental beings in the world.

“They should be cared for and nurtured to enable them to attain their dreams and contribute positively to self, family, community and country. This in keeping with the adage charity begins at home.”

Molefe said this while with some of the beneficiaries from Enjabulwelini Creche from Ext 8. She said children grew to be forthright individuals from the conduct they observe at home, in the community and its institutions.

With crime a concern in the community and country in general, she urged residents to pray with them and, teach them self respect and of the elderly. “This will help them to inculcate a civic attitude, conduct and sense of responsibility and care to the community.

“They should be taught to carry on the message of carrying as they grow up.”

Molefe also commended the companies’ staff for committing to donating to the children. “A survey showed their hearts were pinned on children to who they donated clothes, toys, nappies, food packs and 50 blankets. She said they will also consider assisting the gogos in the future.
