Region E Music Association calls upon local artists to join hands

ALEXANDRA – Mvubu has urged all local music artists to join the association and attend meetings aimed at sharing information with them.

After a series of engagements with the Department of Arts and Culture at the provincial and local government, local music artists said they were hopeful that things were about to change.

The chairperson of a newly formed Region E Music Association Njabulo Mvubu said music artist in the area have been sidelined from participating in government events for a long time, but it seems that their cry has finally heard after a series of meeting with both spheres of government.

Mvubu said, “The idea for the association was born after we had a number of meetings with the Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation in both provincial and local level of government. Our grievances were about music artists in particular being sidelined by both spheres of government when hosting events in the area.

“In most cases, we would attend public events and find out that the artists hired were from other regions while we have scores of talented artist in the area. Such things raised questions and concerns to us as local creatives.”

He said earlier this year local artists met with officials from both spheres of government to air their grievances and were advised to organise themselves.

Mvubu has urged all local music artists to join the association, join forces and attend meetings aimed at sharing information with them and to find solutions to what he described as ‘exclusion of artists in public participation issues’.
