Burglary at City of Johannesburg offices – R25 000 reward offered

JOHANNESBURG – Although it is unclear what was taken, the suspect was captured by the CCTV cameras in the parking lot leaving with a black bag. 


A reward of R25 000 will be offered for the successful arrest and conviction of the suspect who broke into the office of the chief whip, Kevin Wax  on 13 July between 12am and 1am.  Spokesperson for Metro poice, Wayne Minnaar said the wood and glass doors were extensively damaged during the break-in. 

“I have just been informed of the breaking in of the chief whip’s offices last night. We are going to employ every available resource to get to the bottom of this crime,” said executive mayor, Herman Mashaba in a  tweet.

The police will lead the investigation alongside Shadrack Sibiya, head of the City of Johannesburg’s anti-Fraud and Corruption Department and the chief of the Johannesburg Metro police, David Tembe.

Minnaar said the contents of the backpack that the suspect escaped with are unknown as yet. He added that anyone with information could contact 0800 203 712.
