#AlexOutage City Power work overnight to repair substation

ALEXANDRA – Substation caught fire on Tuesday evening, leaving 2nd Avenue and 18 Avenue in darkness for two days.

City Power worked through the night repairing a substation that caught fire on 2 July, leaving 2nd Avenue and 18th Avenue in the dark for two days.

The repair work started on Wednesday as they attempted to restore power as soon as possible. City Power hoped the worked would be completed by Thursday.

City Power said, “If everything goes according to plan, including passing the tests, power should be restored by midday or latest, early Thursday afternoon.”

The work was initially delayed due to the removal of shacks that had encroached on the area around the substation. The shacks were successfully removed with the help of community leaders.
