The ANLFA is healthy, functioning and vibrant, says Morajane

ALEXANDRA – Secretary general of the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association (ANLFA) Mafika Morajane replies to issues raised by the president of the ANLFA Maisha Molepo.

The secretary general of the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association (ANLFA) Mafika Morajane has denied ‘insinuations that there are factions within the ANLFA that were now rendering the football body dysfunctional’.

“The ANLFA is healthy, functioning and vibrant and there are no factions within the body and to describe it as dysfunctional was a figment of fertile imagination,” he told Alex News at his place of work in Woodmead, Johannesburg on 25 June.

“There’s nothing dysfunctional about the association as its games continue to be played week-in, week-out. We have just completed the Map Games 2019, and concluded the ANLFA Promotional League and we’re due to begin our junior leagues when the schools reopen.”

The chairperson of the ANLFA Maisha Molepo told a gathering of Alex Veterans Football Association on 23 June that there was infighting within the association which rendering the board ‘dysfunctional’ as it could not hold its meetings, in reference to a failed AGM last month.

Morajane said, “The board distances itself from the statement [that it is dysfunctional] made by the chairperson [Maisha Molepo] and that he had intended to take the matter [of dysfunctionality] to the mother body with a view to have it disbanded.

“The only possible route to take to solve the problems that are bedevilling the ANLFA is to address the issues at board level and when that board cannot convene, you summon the clubs and when that too fails, only then can you take the matter to Safa Joburg Region to intervene and give direction.”

He denied that they had boycotted the function of the veterans, saying he had booked the [Alexandra] stadium and boardroom for that event as far as he knew, it was an event for the veterans. “I was not informed that we were also supposed to attend as we have no veterans in our board.

“I find it strange that people are questioning the fact that we did not attend, and also raising issues of factions within the board. I know of no factions and someone who knows them must explain further. What are factions in football?”

He pinned his hopes of settling the problematic issues in an upcoming board meeting, failing which they will have to ask Safa to disband the board and appoint an administrator who will later call for fresh elections.
