Teen suspects wanted for hijacking

ALEXANDRA – Hijacked MTN employee's car was found and the teen suspects wanted.

Alex Police Station is investigating the alleged hijacking of a motor vehicle and the robbery of personal items from its driver, an employee of MTN.

Police spokesperson Captain Stephen Malatji said the incident occurred at midday on 5 June at the Engen garage at the intersection of Alfred Nzo Street and 12th Avenue.

“Officers who reacted to the incident recovered the vehicle, a Ford Ranger worth R150 000, which was abandoned in 10th Avenue,” Malatji said, adding that four suspects aged between 17 and 19 years old are wanted in connection with the incident.

The suspects approached the victim, who had stopped at a work substation, and pointed at him with a suspected toy gun. They demanded money from the victim and took his wedding ring, wristwatch, cell phone worth R15 000 and vehicle keys, and drove off. The company’s Dell laptop was inside the car and was found missing when the vehicle was recovered. The vehicle was taken to a police pound after fingerprints were taken to aid the investigation.
