Murder suspect pends further investigation

ALEXANDRA – Murder suspect remanded pending investigation

An Alex man accused of murder was denied bail by Alexandra Magistrates’ Court pending further investigation.

He will reappear in court on 30 June. The 26-year-old, who handed himself over to the Alexandra Police Station, allegedly stabbed a male victim, who later died in hospital.

A female witness heard a commotion outside her premises on the morning of 28 April and saw a group of men confronting the accused, who she knew. Another woman was trying in vain to stop the incident, when suddenly the men fled, with the accused in pursuit and brandishing a knife.

One of the men fell and the accused allegedly stabbed him several times, while the woman who had followed, tried again, but in vain, to top the stabbing.

Afterward, the accused fled and residents took the injured man to a clinic, where he later died. The accused handed himself to the police the following day after hearing about the death.
