Royal Lions’ dreams of promotion to the SAB League suffer a huge set back

ALEXANDRA -– Royal Lions's wish for a quick return to the summit of the ANLFA Promotional League were dashed by a goalless draw against Rangers.

Royal Lions’ ambitions of a steady build-up in their remaining six games in the hope of returning to the summit of the ANLFA Promotional League were dealt a severe blow when they were held to a goalless draw by Rangers.

The status quo remains for Royal Lions and Rangers which are third and fourth respectively on the log with 47 and 44 points from 21 games with only five games to go to the end of the season.

The Lion Kings, as the Sandringham-based side is fondly known to their avid fans, were dethroned from the summit three weeks ago by Black Poison but vowed to make a return in the few remaining matches to go top of the log and be promoted to the SAB League next season.

But these hopes were dashed by Rangers, a team that was humiliated 5–0 by the Lions in the first round of the league. Lions ace striker Paul Maluleke is chasing the ANLFA Golden Boot Award and is on 22 goals while the leader of the pack is Black Poison’s Nkosingiphile Nzimande with 25 goals after grabbing a solitary goal on 18 May against Gomtown Boyz in their 4–1 victory.

Maluleke had two opportunities to score against Rangers but was denied by the crossbar and ballooned a powerful strike over the goals. The Lion Kings played well and mounted numerous raids on the goal of Rangers but lacked that clinical finish in the face of a resolute defence.

Lions’ menacing left winger Samuel Beyouma, who was often caught offside, was also denied by the crossbar when he thought he had found the back of the net.
