Initial report, 11 April, 10am

Disgruntled residents of Alexandra led by the organisers of #AlexTotalShutdown will later today meet with President Cyril Ramaphosa at Alexandra Stadium to hand over their memorandum of grievances.

Residents of Alexandra embarked on a total shutdown on 3 April, blockading all access roads into the township and demanding better service delivery  from the City of Johannesburg. The protesters had demanded that mayor Herman Mashaba visit the township to address residents. When Mashaba failed to do so, they marched to the City’s regional offices in Sandton where they refused to be addressed by City manager Ndivhoniswani Lukhwareni demanding to see the mayor.

Mashaba said he will meet with Alex residents on 15 April.
