After a series of consultations during the past few weeks among local art practitioners, a body that will deal with art fraternity matters in Alexandra has finally been established.

Scores of local artists converged at the Olive Tree Theatre to elect men and women to lead a newly formed artists’ organisation, Alexandra Theatre and Dance Network.

According to Mpho Molepo who was elected the chairperson of the network, elected office bearers will oversee, not only the growth of local theatre but also revive drama, dance and music in the area.

“The elected members will have to bring together all theatre, music and dance practitioners, look at creating the legacy projects for the growth of artists and empower them with necessary critical skills needed in the industry,” Molepo said.

The members of the organisation also agreed to open an academy that will teach drama, dancing, music, script writing and art administration in February this year. The school will cater for artists from the age of five years upward.
