Local model urges young people not to give up their dreams because of challenges

ALEXANDRA – 2018 Miss Common Wealth SA second princess said the competition was an eye-opener for her.

A local model and community development activist Katlego Mahloko (pictured) has been crowned the second princess in the 2018 Miss Common Wealth South Africa beauty pageant competition.

The beauty pageant competition, which is aimed at empowering young women with the knowledge to bring about change in their communities, recently held a night of glitz and glamour at Summer Place Hotel, Germiston.

The 19-year-old founder of the Katlego Mahloko Foundation, a non-profit organisation that help local youngsters with university registration fees, said the competition taught her selflessness and the significance of giving.

Mahloko said, “The competition was an eye-opener for me. It taught me the values of Ubuntu, selflessness and the importance of helping others. It wasn’t just a competition but a school for me. I will use all the lessons I learned to help other young women in my neighbourhood.”

She urged young people to hold onto their dreams and never allow challenging circumstances to put them down.

“One of the things I learned from the competition is not to give up in life.

“Challenges in life come and go and we young people should not allow them to make us quit our dreams,” she concluded.
