#ICYMI: Alexandra Wolves Rugby Club rewards hard-working players

ALEXANDRA – Wolves chairperson said dedication and hard work paid off.

The Alexandra Wolves Rugby Club hosted the 2018 player’s awards ceremony at East Bank High School to reward those who stood out and gave their best to keep the club in its highest form this year.

The club’s U19 team was crowned this year’s champions of the Johannesburg Senior Grand Challenge beating its rivals with convincing points at the end of the season.

According to the club chairperson Tozamile Lukhalo, the awards were aimed at rewarding those players who gave their best performance in 2018 to help the team achieve its success. “We start working with these kids as early as January every year and they give their all during the cause of the year.

“We do this as club management to acknowledge and show our appreciation of their hard work and to reward those who went an extra mile in their services.”

The biggest winner of the day was 20-year-old Simphiwe Malaza from Tsutsumani Ext 7, who bagged three major awards, Club Player of the Year, Players’ Player of the year and Player of the Year awards.

Malaza thanked his coaches for being good mentors to him and his teammates who contributed immensely to his success. “When I started playing rugby in 2011 I never thought I will get to this point.

“I would like to thank the coaches and my teammates who contributed to this success. I wouldn’t accomplish all these without their help.”
