UPDATE: Graft investigation continues at KwaBhekilanga

The Joburg East District of the Gauteng Provincial Department of Education confirmed the suspension of the principal and a teacher of KwaBhekilanga Secondary School.

A previous article by Alex News titled KwaBhekhilanga principal is suspended, Week ending 19 October, 2018, stated the department’s intention to send letters of suspension to the two in relation to an alleged ‘cash for jobs scheme’.

The principal Jubere Silowa and teacher, Offori Yeboah, were fingered by the department, along with two district officials and two general assistants engaged at the school, whose engagement dates were backdated and made to deposit the excess money into the teacher’s bank account. The teacher is said to be out on bail, granted by the Johannesburg Specialised Commercial Crimes Court after being charged for the alleged bribery of an investigating officer. Two district officials were also said to be involved.

“The assistants were victims of alleged fraud and remain at work and the district officials’ matter is in the hands of the department,” district director Mnyamezeli Ndevu said.

Meanwhile one of the two deputy principals is acting as the head of the school at a time when Grade 12s are writing their final 2018 examinations.
