‘Stray bullet’ victim lays attempted murder charge

ALEXANDRA – Stray bullet hearing in court.

 

A man was granted bail of R3 000 by Alexandra Magistrates’ Court for a shooting incident on 9 September at the Mall of Africa.

The case brought up by a complaint whose vehicle was shot at was postponed to 27 September for further hearing. The accused 41-year-old Willie Masilela said to be in the metre taxi industry admitted to firing his licensed gun at someone else resulting in a stray bullet hitting the vehicle of the 29-year-old complainant also said to be in the taxi industry.

Masilela claimed to have been firing at a passenger who dropped off his vehicle after refusing to pay the fare and threatened him with a knife. The man then got into a BMW vehicle which the accused claimed to have fired at as it sped away.

Minutes after hearing the shots and seeing people around taking cover, the complainant got out of his vehicle and found a bullet hole on it. Security guards who witnessed the incident arrested the accused and the complainant laid the charge.
