Cadbury marks 80 years of operations in SA in style
JOBURG – Cadbury celebrates an impressive accomplishment in style.
Cadbury celebrated 80 years since its arrival on South African shores with its first production plant set up in Port Elizabeth in 1938.
The celebration in Johannesburg was marked in style with a programme known as the #RemarkableRegifting of its gifts to its customers. Newshounds were ‘regifted’ in a sneak preview of what is to come as the celebrations pick up this Heritage Month.
It all started in 1903 when the Cadbury brothers, Richard and George, brought their brand to this country from their home in Bournville, Birmingham in the United Kingdom and appointed a sales agent to sell their products. The brothers started breaking ground in Port Elizabeth as early as 1930. They set up shop and eight years later, in 1938, the first locally moulded Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolate slabs rolled off the production line for South Africans, and ever since the brand has never looked back.
The brand has evolved over the years and chocolate lovers will be treated to the whole history of this evolution, including the refreshing advertisements that have marked the growth of the brand over the years, such as the famous drumming gorilla in the famous rendition of a Phil Collins song, In the Air Tonight.
