Court berates perjurer for wasting police’s time

ALEXANDRA – Perjurer receives suspended sentence for fake housebreaking and theft.

An Alex man was sentenced to three years wholly suspended for five years for perjury in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court.

Mpiyake Buloane (30), a company sales consultant in Woodmead, was sentenced for the offence by Magistrate Renier Boshoff assisted by State Prosecutor Lufuno Maphiri.

This after his friends disputed his claim to Alexandra Police Station officers of housebreaking and theft from his home on 28 July. He claimed to have left his home to go to work at 6.30pm after having secured the place and found the door handle broken and forced entry on his return the following morning at 6.30am. He claimed his plasma television and a cell phone worth R4 900 each were missing.

The friends disputed his claim of owning a television saying they watched TV with him in other homes and that he could have lost his phone while with them drinking beer all night. He was arrested when he failed to dispute the friends’ assertion. The magistrate chastised him for making the false report and wasting the officers’ time.
