No more late arrivals at Realogile High School
ALEXANDRA – Realogile High School and the Alexandra Community Policing Forum received bicycles that can go as far as 4 000km without mechanic problems.
Children from Realogile High School will no longer arrive late due to transport delays, and members of Community Policing Forum (CPF) can now easily patrol the streets.
This after the City of Johannesburg, in partnership with NPO Qhubeka and Volkswagen’s Blue Bikes project donated 260 bicycles to the children at Realogile, and the Alexandra policing forum on 14 June.
Realogile High School children received 160 bicycles; while 100 were donated to members of the forum.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, founder of Qhubeka, Anthony Fitzhenry, pleaded with all those who received the bicycles to take care of them. “This project is about making life easier for you. I hope that arriving late at school will be a thing of the past from now on and the CPF members will be more visible on the streets and keep the community safe. I urge you all to take a good care of these bicycles.”
Khuliso, one of the children who received a bike said it will not only help her arrive early at school but it will also help her parents to use her transport money to buy other home essentials.
The forum’s secretary Joseph Munyai said the bicycles will help their members, especially those who work at schools and do not have their own transport. “This gift of bicycles will help in our mobilising campaigns as we were struggling and unable to reach most parts of our community,” Munyai said.
Fitzhenry has promised that Qhubeka will continue to lend a helping hand in different communities to make lives easier for them.
