Two suspects arrested in Hillbrow after robbing a security officer

HILLBROW – The security officer followed his robbers to their hiding place and managed to get them arrested.

 

An off-duty security officer attached to Bad Boys Security Company has helped the Johannesburg police to swiftly arrest his robbers.

Two suspects approached the security officer on his way home in Hillbrow from work in the early hours of 6 June and took his cell phone at gunpoint.

After the robbery, the security officer followed the suspects to their destination and promptly notified his colleagues who then cornered them.

Spokesperson for the Johannesburg Flying Squad Sergeant Desmond Subramoney said the security officers then notified the police.

Subramoney said the incident happened in Hillbrow on the corner of Claim and Leyds streets. “The police then attended to the scene and two suspects were arrested. A 9mm Star unlicensed firearm with three live rounds was recovered.”

The two were charged with robbery, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and they are expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court soon.

The security officer was handed back his Samsung cell phone.
