GALLERY: Church spreads the love

ALEXANDRA – Church foundation prepares gogos for winter.

Ninety gogos from Alex received a welcome respite just in time before the winter chill bites.

The gogos were brought to the Heart of Love Foundation of the Redeemed Christian Church of God’s premises in Randburg where they received blankets and food parcels together with a sermon for their spiritual well-being. This annual event was presided over by church leader, Pastor Folu Adeboye and attended by Consul General of Nigeria, Godwin Adama in order to cement a relationship between the township’s elderly and the church.

In his keynote address, Adama urged other churches with the means to emulate this initiative elsewhere, to do so where there is a need. “The embassy identifies with the foundation’s vision and will continue to support its projects done with the support of prayer. One can’t serve the public without the support of prayer, which all should do on behalf of and in support of South Africa and Nigeria’s peace and development,” he said adding that the elderly lived longer with the power of love.

Adeboye said the foundation promoted the bond between the church and the elderly and relieved them from physical aches and pains associated with aging through spiritual and material support. “The word of God is about life and love.” She said she would like these experiences to be documented to help educate the younger generation on how to spread love as well. She further urged the gogos to be strong and to forgive those who wronged them.

Recipients of the donation commended the initiative, including the spiritual support they received to help them with forgiveness.

Adeboye was also presented with a Ndebele blanket, along with other gifts from the gogos to celebrate her upcoming 70th birthday.
