The Top Dogz are not so top against Rise Together

ALEXANDRA - Gomtown Boyz FC are outclassed by a determined Rise Together side.

Gomtown Boyz FC, whose nickname is The Top Dogz, were not top in a Promotional League game of the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association when they were outplayed by a determined Rise Together losing 2–0.

In the match played at the Alexandra Stadium, Rise Together, who have 10 points from six games and occupy the joint third spot on the log with five other teams but effectively are in fifth position on goal difference, came into the game with a business-like attitude.

They immediately made a good impression right from the word go as they dominated the entire first half of the game and mounted raid after raid of The Top Dogz goalmouth but poor finishing let them down.

It was only towards the end of the first half that Rise Together’s Kulani Manganyi, after fluffing a golden opportunity earlier on, made amends by pouncing on the ball after it had rebounded off the keeper to give his team a 1–0 lead.

The Top Dogz had an opportunity to level the score when they were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box, but it was poorly taken and easily saved by the keeper.

Rise Together missed numerous chances to kill off the game and Tonny Hlengani’s miss was the most glaring of them all as his attempt went wide with the goal at his mercy.

It was in the dying minutes of the game that Dollen Mthombeni scored Rise Together’s second.

Top Dogz coach Mush Raletjena lamented the absence of his regular players and said the team struggled to find its rhythm. “We’re a new team in this league and are struggling but I am hopeful we will be able to find our feet in games to come,” he said.

Rise Together coach Jabulani Ntshani praised his men for a good game but said his only worry was the failure to bang in more goals.

“From the look of things, this is a tight league that will be decided on goal difference and it is important that we annihilate teams like this one to accumulate a huge goal difference.”

The Top Dogz are languishing in 11th position with five points from six games in this 14-team league.
