Woman sliced to death by boyfriend

ALEXANDRA – Man admits to murdering his lover.

A murder and perjury accused was remanded in custody by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court pending determination of whether to transfer his case to a higher court.

The 26-year-old Asanda Mlauli of Ivory Park was said to have given conflicting evidence to police investigators on the murder of his girlfriend. He appeared before Magistrate Renier Boshoff assisted by state prosecutor Lufuno Maphiri on 6 March.

Originally from the Eastern Cape, he is charged with the murder of his girlfriend on the morning of 10 November last year in a veld between Ivory Park and Boulders Shopping Centre in Midrand.

The two had apparently agreed to go and buy clothes for their baby and, while on the way, they quarrelled after the girlfriend told him that she planned to go to her rural Limpopo home with the baby. This allegedly infuriated the accused who changed his mind about their shopping trip.  Mlauli is said to have drawn a kitchen knife and allegedly cut her throat, neck and stomach, leading to her death. The knife broke in the process.

The accused is said to have returned to their home with her handbag, changed his clothes and then went to report the incident at the Midrand Police Station.

He allegedly told police that two men in a car, one a former lover of his girlfriend, had picked up the couple as they walked to another unspecified shopping centre. He claimed the driver stopped the vehicle and the ex-lover pulled out a knife and threatened him with it.

Mlauli said the accomplice ordered his girlfriend at gunpoint to get out of the vehicle and then stabbed her and left her in the veld. The two men took his cellphone and ordered him out of the car. He said he ran to his girlfriend who was already dead and claimed to have walked for hours to Midrand Police Station.

Officers who went with him to the crime scene found the woman’s lifeless body and after interrogating him they suspected foul play. They went to his home where friends told the officers that he had come home, changed clothes and gone out again.

He was arrested and allegedly admitted to the crime, claiming that he was angered by his girlfriend’s intention to take their child to Limpopo and also had doubts about the child’s paternity.

It wasn’t specified where the child was placed.
