Alleged Metro police killer remains behind bars

JOBURG – The case against the man accused of killing two on-duty Metro police officers has been postponed.

 

The case against the man accused of killing two Metro police officers has been postponed to 2 May for further investigation.

Albert Pretorius (41) of Paulshof appeared briefly in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on 29 March, facing two counts of culpable homicide and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Pretorius is accused of killing two Metro police officers, Winnie Mokgolo and Sophie Ngoasheng on 29 January at a roadblock on Witkoppen Road in Fourways. The state alleged that at the time of the accident, Pretorius was driving his vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

On 29 January, the accused allegedly crashed into parked vehicles at a roadblock, killing two officers and injuring others. He was arrested shortly after the accident.

In his defence, the accused told the court that he could not see the roadblock due to bad lighting on the road. He also told the court that the high alcohol level could be attributed to the medication he is taking.

In February, the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court denied Pretorius bail . He remains in custody.
