‘Drugs made us do it’ – brothers sentenced to three years for housebreaking

ALEXANDRA – Housebreaking brothers sent to jail together.

Two self-confessed nyaope-addicted brothers were each sentenced to three years imprisonment by Alex Magistrates’ Court for housebreaking with intent to steal.

Strike (42) and Seun Ngobese (33) were apprehended by security guards who responded to an alarm which they triggered when they broke into a house in Athol at midnight on 7 February. They went over a wall into the premises and broke the door to a study in the house but were scared off by the alarm before they could steal anything.

The guards found them before they could escape from the home.

They admitted guilt at their first appearance on 8 February and were remanded in custody to 23 February when they were sentenced by Magistrate Renier Boshoff.

State prosecutor Lufuno Maphiri said in mitigation, the accused claimed they were driven to commit the crime for money to buy drugs. Damage to the broken door was estimated at R500.
