Robbery suspect beaten up by community

ALEXANDRA – Robber remanded in custody.

 

A suspect recovering from injuries sustained in a beating by the community for alleged armed robbery was remanded in custody on 15 February by Alex Magistrates’ Court pending a further hearing on 21 February.

The suspect, along with two accomplices, allegedly robbed an East Bank resident walking on the corner of Sam Buti and 15th avenues at 8am on 4 February.

When the victim was about to pass them they ordered him to stop. As the victim tried to flee, one suspect allegedly pointed a gun at him and the other two grabbed him and pressed knives on his stomach.

The suspects ordered him to hand over his wallet which he did. They also stole his cellphone and then ordered him to leave.

While walking, the victim noticed one of the suspects following him and he alerted community members who apprehended and beat him up before police were called to the scene.

He was arrested and taken to hospital where he was treated under police guard.Details: 10111.
