Two arrested for armed robbery

JOBURG – Two arrested after man was robbed of his valuable items.

Metro police officers have arrested two suspects for armed robbery. According to Sandringham Police Station spokesperson, Captain Molefe Mogodi, it is alleged that the complainant was with his girlfriend when they were approached by two suspects, and one of them was armed with a gun.

The incident occurred along London Road, near the N3 Highway, in River Park, east of Alexandra. “He pulled out a gun and threatened the victim demanding his valuable items,” Mogodi explained.

The two criminals proceeded to rob the victims, taking cellular phones and more than R1 000 in cash, which the male victim was carrying. The two suspects then ran away.

Mogodi pointed out that Metro police happened to be at the right place at the right time and they acted without hesitation when they were approached by the victims. The Metro officers immediately gave chase and arrested the two suspects, recovering the stolen goods as well and a toy gun which they had used to allegedly rob the complainants.

The station commander for Sandringham Police Station, Colonel Lindani Ndlovu thanked the Metro officers for a job well done.

He also encouraged the community not to keep silent but rather to report all acts of criminality. “As police, we intend to clean our streets of thugs who are harassing our community. We shall continue to serve and protect our community with pride.”

Community members are also encouraged to call in any tip-offs or information on criminal behaviour in their area to their police station.
