UPDATE: Mbopha’s alleged killer abandons bail application

ALEXANDRA – The man accused of killing Alex businessman has abandoned his bail application.

The man accused of killing prominent Alexandra businessman, Mbopha Mashigo has abandoned his bail application.

On 7 February, the accused Jonas Ramokgola appeared before Magistrate Renier Boshoff at the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court. His new legal representative told the court that the accused was no longer continuing with his bail application.

State prosecutor Godfrey Maphiri told the court that the state was not impressed with the conduct of the defence. Maphiri told the court that this was the second time that the defence chose to abandon bail application. He said this affected the investigations that are already at an advanced stage. Mashigo is facing one count of murder.

The state is alleging that the accused shot and killed the deceased on New Year’s day at his business premises. The accused was arrested following a tip-off from a community member after his photos were released and was pointed out as a wanted suspect in the murder case of the businessman. He has been in custody since his arrest.

The case has been remanded to 15 March for further investigations.
