Copper thieves nabbed, await appearance in Alex Magistrates’ Court

ALEXANDRA – Copper thieves await court date.

Five men charged with tempering and damaging essential infrastructure were remanded in custody by Alex Magistrates’ Court pending further investigation.

They were arrested on 18 November last year by security guards alerted of suspicious ‘construction’ workers digging at the intersection of Rivonia and Centre roads in Sandton.

Two of their accomplices fled when the guards pounced on them. The guards found copper cable wire cable worth R150 000 already dug out. The men failed to provide proof of work authorisation.
