Vuyiswa Mazibuko from Escourt, will be studying Process Instrumentation at Mongosuthu University of Technology; Fanelwa Mphikwa from Durban, will be studying Mechanical Engineering at Cape Peninsula University of Technology; Mandisa Nzuza from Durban, will be studying Chemistry at University of Cape Town and Anele Hlongwane from Nkandla, will be studying Mechanical Engineering at Cape Peninsula University of Technology.
Northview High School matriculant Selaelo Senyolo was among a group of students who secured bursaries from the Sasol Corporate Bursary programme. They gathered in Secunda, Mpumalanga, last week to prepare for the academic year ahead.
They were briefed by Sasol on how they will be supported throughout their studies and provided a forum for them to interact and network.
“We are really pleased with the calibre of our corporate bursary recipients this year. They represent some of South Africa’s brightest and most motivated young people,” said Monica Luwes, manager of the Graduate Centre at Sasol Corporate Bursary Services.
Gavin Sharples, a motivational speaker, addresses the students.
She said Sasol’s goal is not just to provide them with funding for their tertiary education but to also provide them with the emotional support and practical assistance they need to excel and reach their full potential.
The Sasol Corporate Bursary programme seeks to invest in South Africa by attracting applications from the country’s top-performers in science and mathematics.
To be considered, applicants need to obtain 70 per cent for maths, 70 per cent for science and 60 per cent for English and also need to be South African citizens. Sasol also provides postgraduate bursary opportunities in science and engineering for deserving students.
Selaelo, from Alexandra, will be studying electrical engineering at the University of Witwatersrand. “It was such an easy process to apply for the bursary and it took me an hour tops. I’m excited to be a female engineer and part of the diverse Sasol family,” she said.
