Alex’s Skeen is keen to spread the good soccer news
ALEXANDRA – Aspiring footballers of Skeen Primary School got an opportunity to hone their skills during a recent soccer clinic.
It’s not by chance that Skeen Primary School is the best football playing school among the 12 primary schools in Alexandra.
The Skeen boys’ team has won the Discovery Cup twice in a row, and it’s the coaching clinics organised by the Luis Pinho Soccer Academy that have played a major role in achieving this feat.
The clinics, in conjunction with the Good News Foundation, welcomed almost 100 eager, soccer-crazy children of Skeen Primary School on18 November for the second annual community soccer clinics for grades 1 to 7.

The foundation is headed by Michelle Modisakeng and, with her team arranged food and drinks for the energetic children as the coaches imparted their skills and knowledge. The children got the opportunity to work on some ball skills while also playing a few fun games.
Assistant coaches Patrick Baptista and Platon Stavrinos of Olympia FC and Bongani Letswalo from United Stars in the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association League worked alongside Pinho, who is also a coach at Olympia FC, in making the soccer clinic a great success for the second year in a row.
“Giving back to the community has always been close to my heart,” said Pinho, who was raised in a soccer-loving family.
“It was a morning full of fun and an exciting soccer experience for the children. An opportunity to work with them is always a humbling experience for me.”

Pinho also managed to rope in his ‘fatherly team’ of two men he considers the ‘dads’ of the clinics, Zarko Mijatovic and Marwaan Mahri, who also contributed immensely to the success of the day.
“We look forward to many more community clinics in the future and I hope to hold four clinics a year at Skeen Primary from 2018 onwards,” concluded Pinho.
