Case against cops involved in an alleged foiled robbery postponed

JOBURG – The case against Douglasdale cops together with their five other accomplices postponed for formal bail application.

 

The case against three Douglasdale police officers together with five of their co-accused was postponed to 16 October for a formal bail application. The eight accused are charged with conspiracy to commit robbery with aggravating circumstance. They are also charged with possession of prohibited firearms (fully automatic firearms) and possession of a firearm without holding a licence, permit or authorisation issued in terms of the Act to possess that (those) firearm(s).

They made a brief appearance at the Randburg Magistrates’ Court on 10 October. State Prosecutor told the court that the addresses of the accused have been confirmed.

The bail application for all eight accused will sit for five days, from 16 October to 20 October.

The three Douglasdale police officers are Constables: Otto Mashele (36), Innocent Mbele (32) and Clement Ngoveni (39).

The other accused persons are Nkosinathi Masoa (34), Raymond Sibanyoni (35), Nelson Malesa (42), Sphiwe Madonsela (41) and Lethabo Sheshingwani (28).

The eight were arrested following an alleged foiled armed robbery. The sate allege that they were on their way to rob a cellphone store at Fourways Mall.
