Healer charges neighbour
ALEXANDRA – Traditional healer charges and warns neighbour about his threats.
A traditional healer of 11th Avenue has pressed charges of intimidation and a threat to his life with the Alex police against a neighbour living on the same street.
The victim, Lucky Motaung aka Gobela Langa in traditional healing circles, said he reported the suspect for allegedly pointing a gun at him, trying to haul him into his home, insulting and accusing him of attempting to bewitch him and for threatening to get him burnt.
He said the incident occurred on the evening of 12 August during an initiation ceremony ion 8th Avenue.
The suspect allegedly approached and asked to talk to him at his home. “I relented but refused to go into his place and asked that we talk on the street. He tried to haul me in and pointed a gun at me, but I resisted and he shouted that he had seen me trying to bewitch him at his home the previous night,” Motaung said.
He further alleged that the suspect hit his own neighbour on the head using the butt of the gun after he refused to back his accusation, and pushed his wife away when she tried to intervene.
“Also, he accused common acquaintances of his and mine for being in cahoots with me in witchcraft. This before he cocked his gun and drove off shouting that he was going to collect a group of people to come burn me.”
Motaung thanked the initiates who had followed them and took him back to complete the ceremony. Thereafter, he reported the case.
He is worried the incident will tarnish his reputation in society and as a safety patroller, and wants the suspect to apologise, in addition to whatever punishment will be meted out by the court.
“I was once approached by armed men while on patrol duty and suspect the incident to be linked with a prison term I served when I was 16 years old, from 1993 to 2009, for trumped up rape charges. The victims, who were young at the time, confessed to me after my release that they had been coached to get me charged.”
Motaung swore, though, that his distracters won’t overcome his ancestors’ protection.
