Videographer’s robber sentenced by Alexandra Magistrates’ Court

ALEXANDRA – Man to serve five of 15-year camera robbery sentence.

A man who pleaded guilty on a charge of armed robbery was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court.

Ten years of the sentence were suspended for five years.

Tshepo Musi (25) was convicted by Magistrate Renier Boshoff after he robbed a videographer at the intersection of Vincent Tshabalala Road and 6th Avenue in Alexandra on 11 April.

The victim, who was parked on the side of the road waiting for a client, was looking in his camera bag, which was in the boot of his vehicle when he felt a gun against the back of his neck.

The accused ordered him to hand over the bag. He complied and when he turned around the accused searched his pockets, took a cellphone and cigarettes and disappeared into an alley.

The victim walked down the road and met with the client who arrived. WHen the accused with the bag boarding a taxi.

They followed the taxi in the victim’s vehicle and reported the robbery to police officers who they met on the way. The officers followed and stopped the taxi, and arrested the accused.

The bag and all of its contents were returned to the victim together with his cellphone.
