A disputed penalty leads to a fight after the Malandela Mighty Heroes game against Blue Aces at the Alexandra Stadium

ALEXANDRA - Things got out of hand when Mighty Heroes were awarded the second penalty with technical staff and supporters of Blue Aces invading the pitch and accosting the referees.

 

Another fight erupted in an Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association Promotional League match.

The scuffle started following a disputed penalty that was awarded to Malandela Mighty Heroes in their game against Blue Aces at the Alexandra Stadium.

The penalty was the second one of two awarded to table-topping Mighty Heroes in their 3–0 win. Things got out of hand when Mighty Heroes were awarded the second penalty with technical staff and supporters of Blue Aces invading the pitch and accosting the referees. One assistant referee was assaulted.

Mighty Heroes came to this match with one thing in mind, to collect all the three points and this was evident from the number of scoring opportunities they missed in the first half which ended in a goalless stalemate.

Mighty Heroes went 1–0 up in the second half after being a awarded a penalty for a foul in the box. Collen Makwela put his side 2–0 within minutes few minutes of coming onto the pitch as a substitute. All the trouble started when the referee awarded the second penalty which Makwela converted for his brace and to put his side 3–0 up.

Speaking to Alex News, Aces coach Robert Mafa believed the second penalty should not have been awarded. “We feel hard done by. We don’t fear losing but we want to be beaten fair and square,” Mafa insisted.

On 30 July, a fight erupted after Mighty Heroes coach Buti Phiri refused to hand over the team’s soccer balls to be used in the game against DRA FC.

The fight was sparked off when a DRA player went through the bags of Mighty Heroes in search of balls.
