Ratang Bana children have a party of their lives

ALEXANDRA – Ratang Bana children eat and party until they drop on Mandela Day.

Children of Ratang Bana, which means love the children in Sepedi, were given much-needed love on Mandela Day when they had a party of their lives.

The children were thrown a lavish party by Kramerville-based company Paycorp, which is an ATM solution manufacturer and servicing company, as part of their giving back to communities.

“We have come here [at Ratang Bana] to have fun with the children, to dance together and play together and also eat together as we celebrate the birthday of our world iconic leader and former President Nelson Mandela,” said Paycorp data analyst, Lindo Xulu.

The company also prepared sumptuous meals for the children and elderly beneficiaries of the Ratang Bana project founded by Ingrid Maredi in 2006 as a football club turned feeding scheme for the children and their caregivers.

Most of the children come from child-headed households while others are cared for by their grannies as their parents have died from HIV/Aids.

Xulu and his more than 40 colleagues got their hands dirty as they tended the thriving vegetable gardens of the centre. The vegetables grown form the backbone of the nutritious meals that are given to beneficiaries of the centre on a daily basis.

Also giving back were Setlamorago Motimele and Nthabeleng Matlou, both of the Juice Factory, who joined the festivities and donated juice to the children and the elderly.
