Technical director of Alex football lauds LFA leadership

Mxolisi Mngomezulu believes had it not been for the support he received from the leadership of the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association, he would probably not be the proud holder of the highest Caf coaching licence.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Alex News, Mngomezulu (38), who is the technical director of the association said he was grateful for the support and belief in his abilities that was exhibited by the association’s leadership.

“For years, Maisha [Molepo] has been drumming it in me that my technical abilities lay in the field of coaching. I now fully agree with his sentiments and will do whatever it takes to make a great success of it,” he said.

Another person who came in for praise was non-other than Mngomezulu’s erstwhile friend and community builder through soccer, Sibusiso ‘Cosmos’ Zwane.

A former Jomo Cosmos player in his heyday – which is where his nickname comes from – Zwane was a pillar of strength for Mngomezulu’s desire to acquire a Caf coaching licence.

“I have been friends with Cosmos for a very long time and he’s one person I always count on for support and upliftment when the chips are down. He did not disappoint even this time around.

“He always encourages me to hang in there, and continue doing this selfless work of developing Alex’s future football stars. He always tells me that the chips may be down today but one day they will be up and begin to bear fruit.”

Zwane runs the annual Alex High Schools Soccer Tournament which he has expanded to include school teams from the entire jurisdiction of the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association, which covers areas such as Highlands North, Kew, Orange Grove, and Linksfield to name but a few.
