Alexandra’s Manyama expected to sweep the boards at #PSLAwards

ALEXANDRA - Lebogang Manyama of Cape Town City is set to sweep the boards at the #PSLAwards on 10 July.

Alexandra’s own footballing son Lebogang Manyama is expected to sweep the boards at the #PSLAwards on 10 July at the Sandton Convention Centre.

The league announced the nominees of this glittering event which marks the end of the 2016/17 Absa Premiership season for 2016/17. The event will be broadcast live on SuperSport 4 and on SABC TV.

Among those nominated is Cape Town City skipper Manyama, who led his side to victory in the Telkom Knockout in their maiden season of the premiership.

Manyama played a pivotal role for his team, scoring a total of 12 goals and making numerous assists. He was one of the most decorated players of the season with many monthly awards. Manyama has been listed for four top PSL awards, those being Footballer of the Season, Top Goal Scorer, Players’ Player of the Season and Player of the Tournament in the Telkom Knockout.

For the Footballer of the Season award, Manyama will be up against other formidable nominees, Mamelodi Sundowns’ skipper Hlompho Kekana and Bidvest Wits’ Thulani Hlatshwayo.

Top Goal Scorer is undoubtedly his while in the Players’ Player of the Season, the former FC Alexandra player will have to outshine the likes of teammate Aubrey Ngoma and the Brazilians’ Percy Tau.

He’s more than 60 per cent assured of annexing the Telkom Knockout Player of the Tournament award, in which he is also up against teammate Ngoma and SuperSport United’s Michael Boxall.

The Goalkeeper of the Season will be contested by Bidvest Wits’ Darren Keet, Sundowns’ Ugandan international Denis Onyango, and Cape Town City’s Shu-Aib Walters while the category of Defender of the Season will pit top contender Kaizer Chiefs’ Ramahlwe Mphahlele against two Wits players, Sifiso Hlanti and Thulani Hlatshwayo.

Nominees for Midfielder of the Season are Sundowns’ Hlompho Kekana, Wits’ Thabang Monare and Cape Town City’s Aubrey Ngoma, and Young Player of the Season nominees are Sundowns’ Motjeka Madisha, Wits’ Phakamani Mahlambi and Lamontville Golden Arrows’ Nduduzo Sibiya.

Coach of the Season will be contested by coaches of the three top teams in the Absa Premiership, those being champions Bidvest Wits’ Gavin Hunt, runners-up Mamelodi Sundowns’ Pitso Mosimane and third placed Cape Town City’s former coach Eric Tinkler.

The Nedbank Cup Young Player of the Tournament will be a battle between the Arrows pair of Siyabonga Dube and Nduduzo Sibiya, along with Teboho Mokoena of SuperSport United. The Player of the Nedbank Cup Tournament will be fought between Mokoena and the Pirates pair of Mpho Makola and Abbubaker Mobara.

MTN 8 Last Man Standing will be a Wits affair between teammates Daine Klate, Thulani Hlatshwayo and Gabadinho Mhango while Referee of the Season will be a battle between Christopher Harrison, Phelelani Ndaba and Thando Ndzandzeka.

Assistant referee category will be fought between Xolani Duma, Luvuyo Pupuma and Mervyn van Wyk. The National First Division’s Top Goal Scorer will go to Sedwyn George of Royal Eagles while the MultiChoice Diski Challenge awards will be between the Sundowns pair of Keletso Makgwala and Motjeke Madisha, and Mlondi Dlamini of Maritzburg United.
