Tshwane side Mamelodi All Stars waltzes past LRC FC

ALEXANDRA - Tshwane side Mamelodi All Stars wallops Alex outfit LRC FC 5–0 to advance to the quarterfinals of the Map Games.

Tshwane side Mamelodi All Stars U17 have advanced to the quarterfinals of the Maimane Alfred Phiri (Map) Games after waltzing past a hapless Love Reaching Community (LRC) FC U17 5–0 at the Altrec Sports Complex.

Stars showed their intentions quite early when Gift Malatji found the back of the net in less than 10 minutes of play to put the visitors ahead.

The Tshwane outfit, who seemed to have been given instructions to bang in as many goals as possible in the first half of the game, kept on attacking. It was only in the dying minutes of the first half that Tshepo Motlakeng gave his side a 2–0 lead as they went into the break.

A halftime pep talk seemed to have worked miracles for LRC as they came back more determined to turn the tables in their favour. They raided the Stars goalmouth time and time again and came close to scoring on two occasions but Stars alert keeper denied them.

Instead, it was Stars who kept banging them in. Their third goal came from the boot of Themba

Makwakwa, who beat two defenders and rounded an advancing keeper to tap in. Motlakeng was at it again when he scored his brace to make it 4–0 while Katlego Somthenga sealed the emphatic victory for the visitors with a strike that rattled the net.

Stars coach Themba Moabelo, though delighted with the win and advance to the quarterfinals, was not complacent and said he would urge his charges to work even harder.

“It’s not going to be easy and hence I do not want to send the wrong message to my players to think that it is going to be a walk in the park for them,” he said.

“They will have to work extra hard if they want to earn a semifinal spot. This was but just the beginning of serious hurdles to come.”

The LRC coach, Bandile Thindleni could not be reached to give his analysis of the game and what went wrong for his charges.
