One-stop service centre for entrepreneurs opens in Joburg CBD
JOBURG – Gauteng MEC for Economic Development and Environment, Agriculture and Rural Development, Lebogang Maile unveils the new Walk-in Centre for government services.
Aspiring entrepreneurs will no longer have to hop from pillar to post in search of support services for their businesses, as the Gauteng government has launched a one-stop-shop in the Gauteng City Region.
Known as the Walk-in Centre at 124 Main Street in the Johannesburg CBD, it will offer a wide range of services to residents of Gauteng including liquor licence applications, SMMEs licensing, funding and applications, and financial and non-financial support for cooperatives and information.
Other services that will be offered will include household food security, consumer-related services, and environmental management.
Speaking during the launch of the Walk-in Centre, Gauteng MEC for Economic Development and Environment, Agriculture and Rural Development, Lebogang Maile, said it was envisaged that all other government departments will, in future, come on board and join the services provided by the centre.
“We want to establish a centre where people can access information and services on all government departments, under one roof. Gone are those days when people are sent from pillar to post, from one department to the other, in search of services.
“We want all Gauteng government services and information to be available under one roof so that people don’t waste time and money [going] from one department to the next and even over several days,” Maile said.
Some of the government agencies currently at the Walk-in Centre include the Gauteng Enterprise Propeller, which is a financial and non-financial service provider; and the Gauteng Liquor Board, automated liquor licence applications, and a compliance and regulation information provider.
The Office of Consumer Affairs, a consumer protection and rights service provider, is another government entity available at the centre; so is the Gauteng Tourism Authority, a service provider for Gauteng tourist attraction and destinations.
And last but not least, is the Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, which provides farmer support, household food security and environmental management, environmental impact assessment, the issue of permits, export, and rural development.
