The first-ever Alexandra Marathon and Fun Walk is postponed to August
ALEXANDRA – The inaugural Alexandra Marathon and Fun Walk which was due to take place on 14 May will now be held on 19 August.
The Alexandra Marathon and Fun Walk, the first official sporting event of its kind to be held in the township, has been postponed.
The event was due to take place on 14 May at the Altrec Sports Complex in Alex and was set to start at 7am and end at 3pm. It will now take place on 19 August at the same venue and time.
“We have decided to move the marathon to 19 August in order to give ourselves [organisers] more time to put together a great event and to source out more support from the community and other stakeholders,” said one of the event organisers and co-founder of Creative Minds Movement, Sakhle Shabangu.
Creative Minds Movement is a youth-orientated non-profit organisation based in Alex which contributes to youth development by creating platforms for engagement, interaction and the exchanging of ideas and knowledge.
The experience consists of a 12km marathon, 5km fun walk, fun fitness activities and a six-a-side soccer tournament.
