Empress Rhythmic Gymnastics Club shines

Empress Rhythmic Gymnastics Club emerges as the shining star at Gym Games 2023 Nationals where they showed their skills and commendable sportsmanship.

The Gym Games 2023 Nationals, a championship for rhythmic gymnastics, was hosted by Gymnastics South Africa at the Wits University sports hall and witnessed an extraordinary display of talent from the Empress Rhythmic Gymnastics Club.

The club’s owner and head coach, Batbagana Oliver, said the gymnasts showcased exceptional skill and commendable sportsmanship.

Day 1: Setting the stage

“The competition kicked off with a stellar performance by Diana Oliver, a high-performance gymnast. Her graceful routines earned her commendable placements of second in the free dance, second in hoop, and an impressive first in ribbon. Diana’s combined results secured her a well-deserved second-place finish overall.”

Day 2: Rising talents

“In the Level 8 U15 category, Zimkitha Tyikwe exhibited her prowess. Despite facing fierce competition, Zimkitha’s dedication and skill earned her a third place in rope and a commendable sixth place overall, showcasing her promising potential,” said Oliver.

Day 3: Dominating the stage

According to Oliver, day three proved to be an extraordinary day for the club.

Nandi Mfundisi, competing in the Level 9 U15 category, emerged as the standout performer. “Her flawless routines in hoop and clubs secured her first place in both events, ultimately leading her to claim the prestigious title of National Champion 2023 in her category.

“In the Level 9 U15 category, Dominique Moore showcased exceptional talent, clinching third place in hoop, third place in ball, and third place overall. Zinhle Lamula delivered a commendable performance, securing a fifth-place finish overall.



“Caitlin Scorgie and Tshiamo Mofata demonstrated great efforts, finishing 11th and 12th overall respectively. Aletheia Swart displayed remarkable dedication, securing 16th place overall in a fiercely competitive field.

“Joana Moore, in the Level 10 over 15 category, showcased her skills, securing seventh place overall, a testament to her relentless hard work and determination,” said Oliver.

Day 4: Youthful brilliance

Oliver highlighted that in the Level 4 category, the young talents of the club displayed their promise.

“Notable mentions include Noxolo Majozi, Kevwe Mazibuko, Alexia Mendes, Kewaone Malebane, and Kgatliso Mononyane, who secured 10th, 20th, 18th, 22nd, and an outstanding fourth place overall respectively, reflecting the bright future ahead for the club.

“Kelly King, in the Level 7 U11 category, was a standout performer, earning first place in ribbon and clinching the title of National Champion 2023 in her category,” said Oliver.

Day 5: Finale with finesse

Oliver went on to say that in the Level 5 U13 category, Zinathi Jafta demonstrated her skills, securing seventh place overall. Ubuhle Redebe, in the U14 category, shone brightly, earning first place in ribbon and finishing second overall, showcasing the depth of talent within the club.
