Homemade playdough is a fun and creative activity for both children and adults. It is also a great way to save money, as store-bought play dough can be expensive. 

Making playdough at home is easy, and there are many different recipes that can be made with just a few simple ingredients. 

In this article, we will discuss four popular recipes for homemade play dough. So, gather your ingredients, put on your aprons, and start making your own homemade play dough today!

Basic Play Dough Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons of cream of tartar
  • 1 cup salt
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Food colouring (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, mix together the flour, cream of tartar, and salt.
  2. In a separate saucepan, mix the water, vegetable oil, and food colouring (if using). Heat the mixture over medium heat until it begins to boil.
  3. Slowly pour the boiling water mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring continuously with a spoon.
  4. Continue to stir until the mixture starts to come together and form a dough.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes.
  6. Store the play dough in an airtight container for up to 6 months.

No-Cook Play Dough Recipe

Ingredients

  • 4 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Food colouring (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, mix together the flour, salt, and cream of tartar.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix the boiling water, vegetable oil, and food colouring (if using).
  3. Slowly pour the water mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring continuously with a spoon.
  4. Continue to stir until the mixture starts to come together and form a dough.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes.
  6. Store the play dough in an airtight container for up to 6 months.

Edible Play Dough Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup peanut butter
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup honey

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, mix together the peanut butter, powdered sugar, and honey.
  2. Knead the mixture until it forms a dough.
  3. Store the play dough in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Note: This play dough is safe for children to play with and eat, but it is not recommended for children with peanut allergies.

Gluten-Free Play Dough Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 cups gluten-free flour
  • 1 cup salt
