Hundreds of suspects nabbed during two separate operations

Among the arrested suspects, eight are underage.

Ekurhuleni detectives arrested 312 suspects in Ekurhuleni as they conducted suspect tracing during Operation Okae Molao on April 21.

The suspects were arrested for crimes including assault to inflict bodily harm, assault common, child abuse, child neglect, domestic violence, robbery and armed robbery.

Other arrests included housebreaking and theft, fraud, kidnapping, possession of a hijacked motor vehicle, murder, attempted murder, motor vehicle/theft, the pointing of a firearm, escape from lawful custody and the possession of drugs and dagga.

Among the arrested suspects, eight are underage.

Five were arrested for possession of dagga, Cat and crystal meth.

In a separate case

Twenty suspects were arrested during a joint operation by EMPD, Gauteng Traffic Police, Home Affairs, CPF and other police units in Alberton.

According to acting Ekurhuleni district communications officer Captain Mega Ndobe, five suspects were arrested for being in possession of drugs, which include dagga, Cat and crystal meth.

Twelve suspects were arrested under suspicion of being illegal immigrants and two illegal shebeens were closed.
Other suspects were arrested for possession of a stolen motor vehicle and theft of a cellphone.

Twenty-two traffic fines valued at R7 800 were issued to motorists.

Recovered stolen vehicles

Three suspected stolen vehicles, including a blue Chevrolet Spark, a white Datsun Go, which was reported stolen at Daveyton, and an Audi Q7, which was hijacked in Booysens, were recovered. Mercedes-Benz and Toyota Fortuner parts were recovered.

Acting district commander Brig Themba Denge was highly impressed by the arrests.

“You can run but you cannot hide,” he said.

He thanked the community for working with the police.

All arrested suspects are expected to appear in the different magistrate’s courts around Ekurhuleni according to their charges.
