Malajika makes it through to elite trials

Malajika selected for Sanabo trials.

Miranda Malajika will have his shot during the national elite boxing trials in December.

He is a member of the South Hills Boxing Club and the club is proud that he had been selected to participate in the South African National Boxing Organisation (Sanabo) National Elite Trials.

Nineteen-year-old Malajika is the reigning 2020 South African Champion in the 52kg division. In 2019 he was voted Best Youth Boxer in Mauritius and was nominated as Sportsman of the Year at the Gauteng Sports Awards, receiving third place.

The trials are scheduled to take place from December 12 to 15 in Dundee, KwaZulu-Natal. Malajika will represent the Gauteng Boxing Organisation (GABO) at the trials, which aims to determine the 2021 Olympic squad.

Head coach at the South Hills Boxing Club Lyle Fortoen said, “I am confident that Miranda has what it takes to be a part of the Olympic Squad as he is disciplined and he continued to train during tough circumstances.”

Fortoen urged business owners and community members to support Malajika on his journey by contacting him on 074 124 5952.
