NEW 4 Niche Community Market is a diverse group of creative sellers and food traders. The market is open every Saturday at the Walkerville Showgrounds from 9am to 2pm. Stall holders sell products like honey, jams, handmade natural soaps, plants, fresh produce, aloe creams, cookies and biscuits, biltong, koeksisters, fudge and candy floss, as well as a variety of crafted goods. Fresh food vendors include Asian food, boerewors rolls, vetkoek and Indian food. Pop in at the gin bar, enjoy craft beer and ciders and just chill out. The market is pet friendly. The market is much more than a collection of stalls and more of an outdoor supermarket with something for all. The market mixes food, entertainment and proximity with a retro-chic style to celebrate the history of the region. The official opening of the farmers’ market takes place at the end of September. NEW 17 The Mirror Your Inner Beauty fund-raiser will take place on October 17 from 10am to 1pm at Doppio Zero at the Comaro View Shopping Centre in Bassonia. Join the organisers for some ‘girl time’ as they enjoy a morning of empowering talks, delicious food and a fashion show to raise funds for j29 Community Care. The j29 Community Care organisation gives vulnerable children and orphans hope by providing ongoing practical support to assist them with their development. Tickets cost R250 per person. Please bring a pre-loved bra donation for the women in the community if possible. NEW 24 Stained glass workshop will take place in the tranquil settings of Henley on Klip on October 24. Come and enjoy a morning or afternoon with your friends and learn a little about stained glass work. Workshops last about three to four hours and you will complete a sun catcher, which is yours to keep. All tools and materials provided, as well as instruction. Workshops are aimed at people who want to try their hand at stained glass before committing to buying equipment and glass, and to those who only want a little fun. Each workshop takes a minimum of three people and a maximum of six. 31 This year the iThemba Walkathon is going virtual. This Avon Justine breast cancer walk is the largest cancer walk in the Avon world, consisting of over 50 participating countries. Aimed at generating awareness of breast cancer in South Africa, they hope to reach all South African women with key educational material that will encourage them to go for regular screening and potentially save countless lives. Join them on October 31 for their virtual walk. Once you register, the downloaded app will be communicated to you. Through the app, you can track your steps, get notified when you reach your milestone, take pictures and so much more. Tickets sell at R150 for adults and R100 for children between the ages of two and 12. Enter online through www.ithembawalkathon.co.za. Entries close on October 26 and no entries will be accepted on the day.
