Introducing hip-hop artist King-Vee
There's a new aspiring hip-hop star in Alberton, Mzameleni Sangweni, also known as King-Vee.
THERE’S a new aspiring hip-hop star in Alberton, Mzameleni Sangweni, also known as King-Vee.
King-Vee (24) was born and raised in the rural Nongoma in Kwazulu-Natal but moved to Florentia in Alberton recently.
“I like Alberton and find it to be a very cool, safe and peaceful place compared to Nongoma. However, I will always be proud of my roots,” he told the RECORD.
King-Vee is a brother to six siblings – two brothers and four sisters. He recently graduated at Rosebank College with a diploma in journalism and dreams of having his own media company in the next 10 years.
His biggest passion in life, however, is music. He loves it and said that he is able to compose and produce music.
He discovered this passion when he was nine years old, being a chorister at his school. In 2013, he started recording music in his very own homemade bedroom studio.
Two years after that, he released his first mixtape, which sold 500 copies around Durban. The next year, he released his first EP single, Next Level, which gained him an impressive fan base around Durban.
After several live appearances and interviews on various local radio stations (such as Nongoma FM, Icora FM, Inanda FM and Vibe FM), he was nominated in 2017 for Best Upcoming Hip-Hop Artist at the Kwazulu-Natal Arts Celebration Awards (KACA).
Today, King-Vee has a full EP album, Uhambo the Journey, consisting six songs. One of the songs, Unyakawami, has its own music video, too. He has also signed a contract with an Alberton-based recording company, THOHO Music.
“My inspiration comes from artists such as Cassper Nyovest, Maraza, X-Wise and especially Sjava. Sjava is my biggest inspiration because he is so good at everything that he does,” said King-Vee. “He’s true to himself, proud of his roots and a very patriotic Zulu. It’s very inspirational and I want to be like that too.”
King-Vee is already busy with a new album, which will be titled Blessed and Gifted, containing 10 original songs. He leaves a final message to the readers: “You cannot fall if you don’t climb, but you cannot live your whole life on the ground.”
