Liefde by die Dam 2018

A family day with great music and delicious food.

NINE thousand people attended the annual Liefde by die Dam concert at Emmarentia Dam on Sunday, August 5. The picnic-style concert ran smoothly and young and old enjoyed music by top SA artists. This year’s line-up featured performances by Die Heuwels Fantasties, Karlien van Jaarsveld, Francois van Coke, Koos Kombuis, Elvis Blue, Bongeziwe Mabandla, Bouwer Bosch and Martin Bester. The MC was the hilarious Schalk Bezuidenhout.

Pierre Greeff from Die Heuwels Fantasties, co-organiser of Liefde by die Dam, says that it feels great to be able to create a new platform where the best of South African music can be showcased.

“Bongeziwe Mabandla was an absolute highlight for me and it’s great to see how many people only discovered his music on Sunday. It was also a wonderful thing for us that the tickets sold for the concert sold out this year. See you again in 2019 and thank you for everyone who attended the concert and enjoyed this spectacular day with us.”

The Liefde Wen team, led by Bouwer Bosch, collected blankets for charity after the concert. Bosch says that they received an estimated 800 blankets this year.

“Many thanks to all who left their blankets behind. The first half of the blankets were already dropped off at the Abraham Kriel Children’s Home in Pothefstroom on Monday morning. The second half will be distributed by one of our partners. They are the Better Einders, a group that focuses on community work in informal settlements.”

Jacaranda FM’s GM, Kevin Fine, says: “Jacaranda FM, the station that brings you more music you love, is proud to have been involved as official radio partner for Liefde by die Dam 2018. It was a concentrated dose of fun in the sun, with beautiful Joburg scenery, spring vibes in the air and first-class acts playing top tunes for a capacity crowd to enjoy – exactly the kind of stuff that we’re about as a station. We’re looking forward to an even bigger and better event in 2019. In the meanwhile, be sure to stay tuned to catch all these acts and more on the airwaves.”
