THREE new movies started showing at Nu Metro The Glen this week, which hosted a variety of entertainment for all audiences – the perfect escape from the winter chills.

Alien: Covenant (16LV)

Acclaimed director Ridley Scott’s highly anticipated new horror thriller Alien: Covenant is the latest installment in the iconic Alien series of movies. The story in Alien: Covenant kicks off as crew members (Katherine Waterston and Billy Crudup) of the colony ship Covenant discover what they think is an uncharted paradise, as part of their mission towards a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy. While there, they meet David (Michael Fassbender), the synthetic survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition. The mysterious world soon turns dark and dangerous when a hostile alien life-form forces the crew into a deadly fight for survival. Their discovery of a threat beyond their imagination forces them to attempt a harrowing escape like no other. Alien: Covenant is showing in The Glen’s Xtreme cinemas – featuring a Premium Large Format screen and powerful 360 degree sound.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul (PG V)

Middle school is not an enjoyable experience for preteen Greg Heffley (Zachary Gordon), but a horrid ordeal of social land-mines that he must bear. To do so, he devises schemes to win him the recognition and status he feels he deserves — all of which fail miserably. Greg chronicles his misadventures, thoughts and opinions in a diary to prepare for the day that he will no longer have to put up with nonsense. A family road trip to attend Meemaw’s 90th birthday party goes hilariously off course thanks to Greg’s newest scheme to (finally!) become famous. “A wimp will rise” is the big-screen version of the popular novel by Jeff Kinney.

Ozzy(PG)

“Fast and furry” is the tagline for this new animated comedy-adventure tailormade for families to enjoy. The pampered life of Ozzy, a lovable beagle, is turned upside down when his family leaves him in what seems to be the best canine spa, Blue Creek, before going on a long vacation. But the place’s perfect appearance turns out to be a façade concocted by its villainous owner, Mr Robbins. Ozzy soon discovers that Blue Creek is a jail for dogs, inhabited mainly by tough street mongrels, where it’s a case of the survival of the fittest. Ozzy will now have to avoid danger, find strength where he didn’t think he had any and learn to rely on Chester, Fronky and Doc, his new friends who will accompany him on his adventure as he tries to get back home safe and sound.
