THE latest superhero-blockbuster from Marvel, Doctor Strange, started showing at Nu Metro The Glen (and other cinemas nationwide) on Friday, November 4. Critics worldwide have hailed this new big screen outing for one of Marvel’s lesser-known comic book adaptations as a modern masterpiece. It stars Benedict Cumberbatch, and also marks the first high budget movie role for this acclaimed actor.
Doctor Strange will be showing in the Scene Xtreme-cinema at Nu Metro The Glen – featuring enhanced digital 3D projection on a large format screen, along with superior all-around sound.
Before he met the Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Stephen Vincent Strange (Cumberbatch) was an unlikable and egotistical neurosurgeon. Everything changes when a car accident limits Strange’s use of his hands, sending him on a maddening quest for a miracle cure. This origin story introduces the magical and mystical realms of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
When traditional medicine fails him, Doctor Strange is forced to look for healing, and hope, in an unlikely place – a mysterious enclave known as Kamar-Taj. He quickly learns that this is not just a centre for healing but also the front line of a battle against unseen dark forces bent on destroying our reality. Before long, Strange – armed with newly acquired magical powers – is forced to choose whether to return to his life of fortune or leave it all behind to defend the world as the most powerful sorcerer in existence.
Doctor Strange is a quality fantasy-based action adventure film, pushing the boundaries of imagination and the boundaries of special effects seen in films before. It also stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Benedict Wong, Benjamin Bratt, and Tilda Swinton – and is based on the comic, Doctor Strange, by Steve Ditko and Marvel-master Stan Lee.
