With the abundance of fresh apples, oranges and seasonal fruit available at Food Lover’s Market, creating a fresh and flavourful summer drink is easy. Quinton Mostert, store manager at Food Lover’s Market at Mall @ Newmarket, suggests a Sangria.
The Spanish punch is perfect for long summery days and can be enjoyed with an assortment of fruit. It can be served as an alcoholic or non-alcoholic drink.
Non-alcoholic Sangria
Ingredients
2 cinnamon sticks
1/2 cup sugar
3 cups of pomegranate juice
1 cup of freshly squeezed orange juice
1 medium orange, sliced into thin rounds
1 medium lemon, sliced into thin rounds
1 medium lime, sliced into thin rounds
1 medium apple, cored and cut into 1/2 chunks
3 cups of soda or sparkling water
In a large jug, combine cinnamon sticks, pomegranate juice, orange juice, orange, lemon, lime, and apple. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour and preferably overnight, to allow fruit flavours to infuse. Before serving, stir in soda or sparkling water and serve in a glass over ice.
* Alcohol is optional – the traditional recipe consists of red wine, which can be substituted with pomegranate juice.
