Alberton Record and Food Lovers Market bring you the Tip of the Week

The Alberton RECORD, in corroboration with Food Lover’s Market at Mall @ Newmarket, is giving you a chance to win a R500 voucher, redeemable at Food Lover’s Market at Mall @ Newmarket.

BANANAS are a great source of potassium and are naturally free of cholesterol.

However, they are often disposed of when considered too ripe, which is a pity as even overly ripe bananas continue to have massive potential.

Quinton Mostert, store manager at Food Lover’s Market at Mall @ Newmarket, has given us tips that will prevent bananas from ripening too soon and tricks on how to re-purpose this fruit.

Place bananas in the refrigerator, this slows the ripening process. Even though the skin of the banana will turn brown, it will still be edible.

Bananas that are too ripe are great for delicious puddings, banana bread and healthy smoothies. As bananas are free of fat and cholesterol, mashed bananas are ideal as a replacement for the oils used when baking. They also provide the body with a healthy balance of nutrients and fluids, which make them ideal as a daily fruit.
